Urban Development “Rendezvous am Park”

Through discourse with urban protagonists, strategies were sought for Mannheim that understand urban expansion as a culture of potentials. Referencing the existing structures and surroundings, a humane scale was to be developed that can honor the desire for a democratic, livable city that is exceedingly sustainable in terms of both economics and ecology.

Working and living alongside the park or almost in the park, in a quiet neighborhood, with infrastructure within walking distance, and yet with sufficient density for an urban district. In Mannheim, the BUGA Quartier—with its favorable housing qualities, open spaces, and workplace potential—will be an attractive, empathetic urban space close to downtown, harboring the potential for an international building exhibition.

Originating from the contemplative character of the parking structure, traffic routes of all hierarchies will lead along tangent lines to circles, reaching all positions of the existing districts where old and new intersect. This gives rise to direct paths between the park and the existing town, as a basis for cooperative processes.
