More than ten years after the end of apartheid, South Africa—the ostensible “rainbow nation”—is still a torn country. Critics assert that the democratic process has merely led to a recoloring of the elite rather than to a more just distribution of prosperity. Against this backdrop, the exhibition “Black, Brown, White” embarks on a quest to find traces in imagery. Outstanding South African photographic artists from different generations show various facets of this country caught between apartheid and new beginnings.
