Based on the eponymous essay “Meine Herkunft habe ich mir selbst ausgedacht” [My Origins? I Made Them Up] by the author, journalist and cultural critic Diedrich Diederichsen, the festival explored questions such as the following: What is it that prompts artists to increasingly turn towards their role models and how are the corresponding homages, references and quotations revealed in their works?
Which continuities, and also breaches, become apparent when it comes to creating a guiding figure?The participating galleries for contemporary art conceptualized exhibitions on this theme in cooperation with international curators.curated by_vienna / Wirtschaftsagentur Wien took part in the art fair viennacontemporary with a sculture out of poster capsules. The capsules with posters from the artist Michael Dreyer were free to take away and so the sculpture disappeared gradually.
